Fontana Mazda Shoppers Compare
The 2020 Mazda6 vs 2020 Hyundai Sonata

SUVs have received a lot of attention from buyers these days, but there’s still a substantial market for midsize family sedans. While this competitive class has many entrants, most models don’t stand out from the crowd. One midsize sedan that’s been making a splash is the 2020 Mazda6. According to the Mazda dealer near Fontana, the Mazda6 impresses buyers with its sporty ride, upscale cabin and head-turning styling.

Some buyers considering the 2020 Mazda6 may also be looking at the 2020 Hyundai Sonata. We’ll examine both models to see which one comes out on top.

The Mazda6 Performance vs Sonata Performance

The 2020 Mazda 6 has two engine choices. According to the Fontana area Mazda dealership, at the top of the engine lineup is a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The 2020 Hyundai Sonata also has two engines on offer, but the most power you’ll get from the Sonata’s turbocharged 1.6-liter engine is 180 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. You’ll appreciate the Mazda6’s quicker acceleration.

Compare Handling and Interior

Handling
U.S. News & World Report calls the Hyundai Sonata’s handling unenthusiastic. Meanwhile, it noted the Mazda6 is “... one of the most enjoyable sedans in its class to drive, thanks to its nimble handling.” Helping the 2020 Mazda6 achieve exceptional handling is the standard G-Vectoring Control Plus system. G-Vectoring Control Plus aids handling when taking curves by applying light braking to the outer wheels and shifting the sedan’s weight forward to increase traction.

Interior Space
Interior space is important to keep the driver and passengers comfortable, especially on longer trips. The 2020 Mazda6 has plenty of room for everyone to stretch out. The Mazda6’s accommodating backseat gives it an advantage over the Hyundai Sonata. Passengers in the rear seat will have 3.9-inches more legroom than those riding in the back of the Sonata.

Luxury
Both models provide an upmarket look and feel. But occupants of the Mazda6 will experience more interior luxury than those riding in the Sonata, particularly in the top-of-the-line Mazda6 Signature trim. It comes with amenities such as Ultrasuede dashboard trim, Nappa leather upholstery and Sen wood accents.

Safety
The 2020 Mazda6 and the 2020 Sonata are safe vehicles. But the IIHS gave the Mazda6 its highest safety award, naming it a Top Safety Pick+ model. The organization only named the 2020 Sonata a Top Safety Pick, one tier lower than the Mazda6.

The Mazda6 gets standard blind-spot monitoring on all models in the lineup. By contrast, you won’t get standard blind-spot monitoring on the Sonata’s entry-level SE trim level. Adaptive LED headlights are also exclusively available on the new Mazda6.

Standard Features
Both sedans come with lots of standard features. But all Mazda6 trims get standard dual-zone automatic climate control, allowing the driver and front passengers to apply different settings. This feature doesn’t come standard in the Sonata’s base trim. Standard rain-sensing wipers further highlight the Mazda6 as an excellent value.

Our Conclusion
The 2020 Honda Sonata is a good car, but it falls short in several key areas when you compare it with the 2020 Mazda6. The Mazda6 has a more powerful turbocharged engine, better handling, more legroom in the rear seat, and delivers better safety scores.
